Spires Philharmonic Chorus (SPC)

The SPC is a chorus, about 50 strong, which performs the classical choral repertoire to a high standard.

At least twice a year (usually the Saturday after Easter and again in November/December) it combines with the SPO in Holy Trinity Church, Coventry, to perform a major choral/orchestral work under our musical director Colin Touchin, and also performs separate smaller concerts with chamber group or organ accompaniment under our chorus director, Jack Lovell.

In January it holds a very popular Come and Sing Day for all interested comers. The piece chosen is generally (but not always) the score that will be used in the following Easter concert. Recent works have included the Mozart Requiem and the ever-popular Handel Messiah.

Rehearsals for the Spires Philharmonic Chorus are held over a number of weeks, depending upon the nature of the concert, and are arranged flexibly to allow members to sing in other local choirs as well. We expect members to attend approximately half of the rehearsals. Whilst there is not usually a need to audition for the SPC, an ability to read music is an advantage and a willingness to undertake some preparation outside rehearsal times is expected. Please contact our chorus manager Kathryn Hardy for more information and to arrange to join the chorus.
