Play & Sing Events

Every year, we welcome over 100 musicians to play and sing with Spires Music as we learn a work from scratch in just one day. We rehearse during the morning and afternoon and then, under the guidance of our Music Director Jack Lovell-Huckle, we give an informal performance for our friends and family. We've previously tackled works including Shostakovich 5th Symphony, Brahms' A German Requiem, Handel's Messiah and Schubert's Mass in Ab.

18 January 2025: Play & Sing Day

Join Spires Music for a chance to sing and play excerpts from Bach's dramatic masterpiece, his St John Passion. Complete with soloists, the day will consist of separate and joint choral and orchestral rehearsals, comfortable tea breaks and an afternoon tea before an free, informal performance at 16:30-17:30. All are welcome to join us at 16:00 for a spot of tea and cake before the final run-through. Vocal scores can be provided, please indicate you want one when booking your place. Orchestral parts will be provided on the day. Morning refreshments and afternoon tea provided but participants are requested to bring their own lunch. Players should also bring a music stand.

Doors open: 9:30am

Rehearsals: 10:00am - 4:00pm with breaks for refreshments and lunch.

Afternoon tea: 4:00

Performance : 4:30 - 5:30 (free of charge)

Music will be provided.

Bring your own lunch and a music stand.
